Yes, folks, it’s the Minnesota State Fair time! I was so impressed a few days ago when Mary, a client and nanny, asked about how to prepare for taking children to the fair. I thought the consideration of her question was so thoughtful and caring.
I recommend making a checklist of the items to bring or pack. I advise starting with sun protection. Look for a product with at least a SPF of 30 and active ingredients of Zinc or Titanium oxide as they are very skin friendly and provide a healthy protective shield for their sensitive skin. Remember to bring a hat with a full brim to help avoid nasty neck burn. I also like to see sunglasses, even on the little ones, since that sun can be extremely strong by mid-afternoon. And don’t forget an umbrella, or at least leave it in the car just in case a few rain drops come by surprise.
Start out with a healthy breakfast on Fair Day. There will be all sorts of tempting fun State Fair foods, most of which lack ample nutrition. You may also want to pack a couple of healthy snacks just in case, especially for those with food sensitivities or allergies.
Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day. Those hot, humid August days can be exhausting, particularly when you’re walking for hours at a time. Be sure to rest periodically’ look for one of the many shaded areas that the fairgrounds offers.
As a final thought, throw some Handy Wipes into your bag. You’ll be glad to have them, as the fair can be dusty and dirty, especially for the little ones!
