Dairy and specifically milk in the last decade have been found to have a direct link to acne. Studies have shown the more milk you drink, the worse your acne will be. Milk has growth hormones that have been shown to cause inflammation in humans. Dairy also makes you produce excess sebum oil, which can lead to more acne and clogged pores.

So the simplest way to prevent acne is to stop consuming dairy.  It may be easier said then done though, so it’s important to take it slow and create a new lifestyle and habitat.

  • Start by substituting milk for unsweetened organic almond or coconut milk.
  • If you are still craving milk and dairy, try using goat and sheep milk, because it is easier to digest and may not cause as much acne.
  • Soy and lactose free milk  will still give you acne. Soy milk is made from processed soybeans, which can disturb your hormones and lead you away from clear skin. Lactose free milk is still milk, but with a pre-digestant in it to help those with a lactose intolerance.
  • Be aware of hidden milk ingredients. Milk is in almost everything. As you go further into your dairy free life, make sure to check food labels and ask restaurants if a dish contains any dairy – your face will thank you later.
